Ghost Models NewsletterJUNE 2008
NEWS - 3 June 2008 -- Looks like the Formula Models 2007 Indy winner and 2005 Patrick Indy car will slip to August. They were promised for late June but lastest news is now August. Looks like the next Formula Models new release is going to be the Aerosmith IRL car of Jeff Ward. Colin has also said he will do the Dixon 2008 Winner and Patrick Japan 1st Win. I wouldn't look for them until Sept. New release Marsh Models Factory builts will now come in BBR display cases. This is exclusive to Ghost Models. The first release in the BBR cases are the Audi R10 Lemans 2007 winner, Martini Hippie 917L, and Elford 917L. All the announced Dog Leg 1952-56 Roadsters are now in stock in both Factory Built and Kit form. So that is one release that has been close to the time promised. I'm very pleased with these new Dog Leg models -- the build is very good and now all also have tire decals. .24 April 2008 -- Some very interesting news for the coming months. Formula Models has announced at new line of model cars -- Formula Sports -- it will be a new line of closed wheel sports cars from Colin Fraser. Also, Colin as say he will be doing the Danica 1st win car. It will be done the same time as the 2007 winner Franchitti. He hopes to have them both out in late June. Bizarre Gulf Ford Mirage Spa 1967 Winner is in. Minichamps 917L Elford and Hippie are in but almost sold out. Both are sold out by Minichamps now. I can't get anymore. The second Velocity Vette from Marsh Models should be available in about a month. FORMULA MODELS -- Hornish Marlboro Dallara 2006 Indy 500 Winner is in stock. Most the IRL 2001 thru 2006 Indy 500 cars annouced are in stock. Kits of the Hornish car are in stock now along with the 7 other new Indy cars Colin has released since June 2007. EXCHANGE RATES AND MODEL PRICES -- (Posted back in Oct 07 but I have left it up help explain why prices have gone up so much lately) Over the past two years I have made several comments about foreign exchange rates and their impact on model prices. Three things have impacted model prices greatly in the past to 2 years -- 1. Exchange rates (30 to 35% loss by the US dollar)-- 2. Model makers wholesale price increases (10 to 15 %) -- and 3. shipping costs up 15%. It seems I'm having to explain this every couple months because the US dollar continues to fall against European currencies over the past two years -- at first it was a 5 year low, then a 10 year low, and now were are at a 15 year low against the British Pound. Plus an all time low against the Euro. The net impact is the dollar has lost 30 to 35% of it's buying power in Europe. The most dramatic impact on model prices has been the loss of value of the US dollar. But adding the US dollar value issue with normal price increases from makers and shipping cost -- the impact on new model prices have been enormous. This means a Marsh Factory built model that was $195 two years ago is now $265 to $280. Handbuilts aren't the only makers with big price increases Minichamps (up 10 to 40%) and Carousel 1 (up 15%)are also raising prices a great deal -- the press release says it is just cost of materials in China but I'm sure the loss of value in the US dollar is a factor. I know this was a long explanation of why prices have been going up. I know you have had sticker shock on many new releases -- I just wanted to explain what is going on -- In know how it feels -- I've also had sticker shock when I get invoiced for incoming new models.
